Tennis: 'I'm fine!' - Suarez Navarro completes treatment for Hodgkin's lymphoma

Former world number six Carla Suarez Navarro said on Thursday that she had completed treatment for Hodgkin's lymphoma and would recover from her cancer.

The 32-year-old Spaniard announced last September that he had been diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma at an early stage and would have to undergo six months of chemotherapy.

"Take it one step further," Suarez wrote on Twitter, announcing that he had ended his treatment.

"Thank you all for your warm messages. Every word of support has given me strength over the last few months.

"All my thanks to the healthcare professionals who take care of us every day. I'm healthy!"

Suarez  Navarro, known for one of the best tennis backgrounds, had planned to compete in last year's US Open but withdrew from the Grand Slam a week before the start due to health reasons.

A week after he revealed his diagnosis, doctors said he had a small, treatable lymphoma that was detected at an early stage.

Spaniard had said at the end of 2019 that he would retire at the end of 2020, but now he has to continue playing after his last season was interrupted due to Covid 19 and his health problems.

According to a report on the WTA website, Suarez Navarroplans to play in the French Open from May 24 to June 13, where he has a direct entry into the main draw.
