After hiring a German coach at the end of last season, Karolina Pliskova has yet to enjoy much success under Sasha Bajan, but the former Czech world number one says they are doing well together. Are
Pliskova, ranked ninth in the world, parted ways with Daniel Vallverdo at the end of her 2020 campaign and included former Naomi Osaka coach Bajin in the 2021 season.
The 29-year-old has not reached the quarter-finals of any of her six events this year but told reporters at a WTA 500 event in Stuttgart that she was "doing well" with her coach. "
"Of course, I didn't play very well, but there's nothing wrong with that," said Pliskova, who topped the world rankings in 2017.
"Sometimes you don't even know why things happen.
"But he's doing his best. I'm doing my best. Hopefully we'll have more success in the future. But everything is working well."
Bajin helped back the big title at the 2018 US Open and the Australian Open the following year, and has previously worked with 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams.
Pliskova's last title came in Brisbane in January 2020, after which the Czechs made only one final, losing to Simona Halep in Rome last September.
Czech acknowledged that it has not had a good start since 2021.
"For many years, I've been in a very consistent mood. So, maybe this year will be a little different," he said.
"I'm trying my best to get back to where I was or where I ended up in Australia last year, but I'm practicing well. I think it will take more time. Û”
"Of course. It's not the best feeling I've had so far about the year, but I think I'm doing a lot of things right. So, hopefully, the year is still long, there are still a lot of tournaments left. Û” "
