Weapons are relying on Europa League success to save
the season, but face former manager Anne Emery, who will also prove to be in
the first leg of Thursday's semi-final against Villarreal.
Sitting 10th in the Premier League, the Gunners are on
the verge of ending the worst league since 1995.
But Mikel Arteta's men are just three games away from
the club's third European trophy and are desperate tickets to return to the
Champions League for the first time in five seasons.
Not all is well in the UAE or off the field. Ahead of
Friday's 1-0 defeat by Everton, thousands of spectators rallied against gun
owner Stan Kroenke, demanding the American billionaire sells the club.
Armstrong was one of 12 breakaway clubs seeking
assurance of a high level of European football every season without the risk of
qualifying.
It's easy to see why Kroenke sought the guaranteed
income provided by the Super League.
For 19 seasons between 1998/99 and 2016/17, the
Londoners never failed to qualify for the Champions League. Now they are ready
to be out of the top four of the Premier League for the fifth year in a row.
The decline began between May 2018 and November 2019,
before Emery's 18-month spell.
Spaniard lost by one point in the top four and reached
the Europa League final when he was only in charge for four seasons, but was
dismissed for second only four months later.
"It ended in an unfortunate situation,"
Emery told UEFA.com ahead of time.
"I want to win for myself and Valerie. (Two years
ago) I was defending Arsenal's red in this final against Chelsea, now I realize
it has something to do with Valerie's yellow. I have a competitive edge, and I
have a responsibility to make that decision. The club and everyone I represent
with my decisions. "
A three-time Europa League winner during his time in
Sevilla, the 49-year-old has won 28 of 31 knockout matches in competitions at
four different clubs.
For those who have been in touch for a long time, the
villa is also in the minds of the sparrows.
The first trophy for the first time is also the only
way for the Spanish team in next season's Champions League.
Seriously, when they came close in the silver lining,
it was the Champions League semi-final against Arsenal, when Jane Lehmann's
last-minute penalty in 2005/06 saved the young Roman from reclamation, but the
tie Stopped going overtime.
"The two clubs have a different history,"
added Emery. "Regardless of my recent coaching there, it will be a great
competition."
- Solskjaer wants to finish in the semi-finals.
In the second semi-final, Manchester United boss Oli
Gunner is set to reach the final for the fifth time after taking charge of the
Red Devils against Solskjaer Roma.
Under Norway, English companies have twice reached the
last four of the League Cup and the Europa League and FA Cup semi-finals of the
last season.
United have indeed promised to finish in the top four
in the Premier League, but far from Manchester City, they have kept away from a
challenging challenge. There is a great reward to be offered.
"It feels like a proper European tie because Roma
is a club with a lot of history," said Sullivan when the draw was made.
Like Arms and Villarreal, there are more stimuli for
the Italians, who are seventh in Series A.
Victory in next month's final in Gdansk is Polo
Fonseca's best shot for European football next season for men.
