Italy's Fabio Fognini suffered a defeat during his second-round match at the Barcelona Open on Wednesday when the Italian lost his temper and verbally abused him, which was picked up by a line judge.
Ninth seed Fognini was trailing 6-0 4-4 against Spain's Zapata Miralles when a line judge reported him using foul language after a mistake on Monday.
Fognini was warned early in the match and the 33-year-old stormed the court when the chair umpire informed him of the decision to default.
"I didn't tell him anything," Fognini shouted, breaking his jacket on the net and throwing it out of the court in frustration.
Fognini is no stranger to court controversy. He was suspended for two Grand Slam tournaments and fined 96 96,000 for rioting at the 2017 US Open.
The 147th-ranked qualifiers in the world will play in the last 16 against compatriot Pablo Carino Basta.
